Abstract
A terminal for a battery module and a method of manufacture of the terminal are provided. The battery module may include a plurality of battery cells and a bus bar. The bus bar may be electrically coupled to the plurality of battery cells. The battery module also may include a battery terminal that carries a voltage from the bus bar. The battery terminal may include a generally cylindrical terminal portion and a connector. The connector may be coupled to the bus bar cell interconnect. The battery terminal also may include a bent portion. The bent portion is disposed between the terminal portion and the connector.
Claims16
A battery module, comprising:
- a plurality of battery cells;
- a bus bar directly, physically, and electrically coupled to one of the plurality of battery cells;
- and
- a battery terminal configured to carry voltage from the bus bar without physically contacting the plurality of battery cells, wherein the battery terminal comprises:
- a generally elongated and cylindrical terminal portion;
- a connector coupled to the bus bar, wherein the connector is integral with the terminal portion;
- and
- a bent portion disposed between the terminal portion and the connector, wherein the bent portion is integral with the connector and terminal portion, and wherein the bent portion comprises a U-shaped bend between the terminal portion and the connector.
A battery module, comprising:
- a housing;
- a plurality of battery cells disposed in the housing;
- a battery terminal electrically coupled to the plurality of battery cells via an elongated terminal portion and a connector, wherein the battery terminal does not physically contact the plurality of battery cells, wherein the elongated terminal portion extends out of the housing, wherein the terminal comprises an integrally formed piece having both the elongated terminal portion and the connector, and wherein the battery terminal comprises a U-shaped geometry between the terminal portion and the connector;
- and
- a plurality of bus bars directly, physically, and electrically coupled to the plurality of battery cells, such that the plurality of battery cells are electrically coupled to each other and to the connector of the battery terminal.
