Abstract
The invention provides seed and plants of Catharanthus hybrid ‘PAS1053045’ and the parent lines thereof. The invention thus relates to the plants, seeds and tissue cultures of Catharanthus hybrid ‘PAS1053045’ and the parent lines thereof, and to methods for producing a Catharanthus plant produced by crossing such plants with themselves or with another Catharanthus plant, such as a plant of another genotype. The invention further relates to seeds and plants produced by such crossing. The invention further relates to parts of such plants.
Claims33
A Catharanthus plant comprising at least a first set of the chromosomes of Catharanthus line M2246D, a sample of seed of said line having been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-123117.
A seed comprising at least a first set of the chromosomes of Catharanthus line M2246D, a sample of seed of said line having been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-123117.
A method of introducing a desired trait into a Catharanthus line comprising:
- (a) crossing a plant of line M2246D with a second Catharanthus plant that comprises a desired trait to produce F1 progeny, a sample of seed of said line having been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-123117;
- (b) selecting an F1 progeny that comprises the desired trait;
- (c) backcrossing the selected F1 progeny with a plant of line M2246D to produce backcross progeny;
- (d) selecting backcross progeny comprising the desired trait and the physiological and morphological characteristic of Catharanthus line M2246D;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny that comprise the desired trait.
A method of producing a plant comprising an added trait, the method comprising introducing a transgene conferring the trait into a plant of hybrid ‘PAS1053045’, or line M2246D, a sample of seed of said hybrid and line having been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-123114, and ATCC Accession Number PTA-123117, respectively.
A method for producing a seed of a plant derived from at least one of hybrid ‘PAS1053045’, or line M2246D comprising the steps of:
- (a) crossing a Catharanthus plant of hybrid ‘PAS1053045’, or line M2246D with itself or a second Catharanthus plant;
- a sample of seed of said hybrid and line having been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-123114, and ATCC Accession Number PTA-123117, respectively;
- and
- (b) allowing seed of a hybrid ‘PAS1053045’, or line M2246D-derived Catharanthus plant to form.
