Abstract
A ladder safety device, systems and methods of arresting falls from ladders are provided. The ladder safety device includes a safety guide that extends along the length of an extension ladder. The length of the guide along the length of the ladder extends and contracts in unison with the extension and retraction of the extension ladder, and a tension is maintained on the guide to maintain a load during use of the ladder for climbing.
Claims19
A ladder system comprising:
- an extendable ladder including at least a first ladder section and a second ladder section, the second ladder section extendable and retractable with respect to the first ladder section;
- and
- a ladder safety device comprising:
- a first set of lead structures secured to the first section;
- a second set of lead structures secured to the second section, each lead structure of the first set of lead structures and the second set of lead structures is an eyehook, a tube, or a pulley;
- a first anchor disposed at an end of the second section;
- and
- a guide fixed to the first anchor and extending through or around the first set of lead structures and the second set of lead structures, the guide connected to a spring and a turnbuckle in forming a closed loop of the guide surrounding the extendable ladder, the guide configured to allow slideable attachment of a fall arrest grab device.
