Abstract
The present invention provides regulatory polynucleotide molecules isolated from plant proline rich protein genes and linked to a viral enhancer molecule. The invention further discloses compositions, polynucleotide constructs, transformed host cells, transgenic plants and seeds containing the regulatory polynucleotide sequences, and methods for preparing and using the same.
Claims8
A method of reducing pest infestation or pathogen infection in a transgenic crop plant, the method comprising expressing in the plant an expression cassette comprising a (i) chimeric polynucleotide promoter molecule comprising in operable linkage 5′ to 3′ a plant viral promoter enhancer segment operably linked to a Medicago plant proline rich protein (Prp) promoter segment, which is (ii) operably linked to a nucleotide sequence that confers reduced pest infestation or reduced pathogen infection in the transgenic crop plant relative to a crop plant lacking the expression cassette,
- wherein the Medicago plant proline rich protein promoter comprises a polynucleotide sequence that exhibits at least 95 percent identity to SEQ ID NO:3, SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:5, or SEQ ID NO:6;
- and
- wherein the pest or pathogen is selected from the group consisting of arthropods, nematodes, fungi, bacteria, oomycetes, and viruses.
