## Abstract

A method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for planning refueling. In one advantageous embodiment, the apparatus includes an air refueling plug-in application capable of calculating air refueling routes for a formation of aircraft and a plurality of plug-in applications. A framework capable of providing framework services to the air refueling plug-in application and the plurality of plug-in applications is present. The apparatus also includes a first interface for the air refueling plug-in application and the plurality of plug-in applications to receive the framework services from the framework. The apparatus also has a second interface for the air refueling plug-in application and plurality of plug-in applications to provide services from one plug-in application to another plug-in application. The first interface and the second interface are independent of the air refueling plug-in application and plurality of plug-in applications.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the received receiver data comprises a location of each of the receiver aircraft, a route for each of the receiver aircraft, a fuel status for each of the receiver aircraft, and a formation of the plurality of receiver aircraft.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the received receiver data further comprises at least one of aircraft performance models, weather, refueling bracket location, receiver abort points, airport capabilities, closest divert points along a route, degradations in a receiver aircraft, and user preferences in divert points.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the refueling plan further comprises at least one of aircraft speed, air refueling brackets, which hose to use, altitude for refueling, and divert points.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the formation is a rendezvous formation.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the step of receiving first data for the plurality of receiver aircraft comprises:
dynamically receiving first data for a plurality of receiver aircraft while the plurality of aircraft are in flight to form the received receiver data.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein the step of receiving first data comprises:
dynamically receiving second data for the set of tanker aircraft while the set of tanker aircraft are in flight to form the received tanker data.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, wherein the generating step further comprises:
dynamically generating modifications to the refueling plan for use between the starting point and the destination point for the plurality of receiver aircraft as the first data are received from the plurality of receiver aircraft and the second data are received from the set of tanker aircraft.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8 further comprising:
sending instructions on refueling to the plurality of receiver aircraft and the set of tanker aircraft based on the modifications to the refueling plan.
