## Abstract

A payment instrument is disclosed, including a memory configured to store one or more sets of identification data, a communication interface configured to connect the payment instrument to a network, one or more access interfaces configured to provide access to the one or more sets of identification data, one or more displays configured to display representations of the one or more sets of identification data, and a processing circuit configured to receive, via the communication interface, at least a part of a representation of one of the one or more sets of identification data from a server via the network, and cause the representation to be displayed on the one or more displays. Furthermore, a method and a system for operating payment instruments are disclosed.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A payment instrument including:
a memory configured to store one or more sets of identification data;
a communication interface configured to connect the payment instrument to a network;
one or more access interfaces configured to provide access to the one or more sets of identification data;
one or more displays configured to display representations of the one or more sets of identification data; and
a processing circuit configured to select one of the one or more sets of identification data, adjust the one or more access interfaces to provide access to the selected set of identification data, request at least a part of a representation of the selected set of identification data from a server, receive, via the communication interface, the at least a part of the representation of the selected set of identification data from the server via the network, and cause the representation to be displayed on the one or more displays.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, wherein the one or more displays are arranged on one or more sides of the payment instrument.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, wherein the one or more displays are flexible displays.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, wherein the one or more access interfaces include a contact surface arranged on one or more sides of the payment instrument.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, wherein the one or more access interfaces include a chip on one side of the payment instrument and a magnetic stripe on another side of the payment instrument.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, wherein the processing circuit is further configured to receive, via the communication interface, a new set of identification data and at least a part of a representation of the new set of identification data from the server, store the new set of identification data in the memory, and cause the representation of the new set of identification data to be displayed on the one or more displays.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, wherein the memory is further configured to store one or more apps, wherein the processing circuit is further configured to initiate execution of the one or more apps and cause data to be displayed on at least one of the one or more displays responsive to execution of the one or more apps.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The payment instrument of claim 7, wherein the one or more apps are executed on a remote server, wherein the processing circuit is further configured to receive, via the communication interface, the data for display from the remote server.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, further comprising an input interface, wherein the processing circuit is further configured to receive user input via the input interface, wherein the input interface is integrated in the one or more displays.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, further comprising a sensor configured to determine a geolocation of the payment instrument.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, wherein the payment instrument has the form of a card.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The payment instrument of claim 1, wherein the processing circuit is further configured to verify a financial transaction in response to a request from a terminal received via the one or more access interfaces based on a set of identification data.

### Claim 13

A method for operating a payment instrument connected to a network via a communication interface, comprising:
maintaining one or more sets of identification data in a memory of the payment instrument;
providing access to the one or more sets of identification data via one or more access interfaces of the payment instrument;
selecting one of the one or more sets of identification data;
adjusting the one or more access interfaces to provide access to the selected set of identification data;
requesting a representation of the selected set of identification data from a server;
receiving, via the communication interface, at least a part of the representation of the selected set of identification data from the server via the network; and
displaying the representation on one or more displays.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising receiving, via the communication interface, a new set of identification data and at least a part of a representation of the new set of identification data from the server, storing the new set of identification data in the memory, and displaying the representation of the new set of identification data on the one or more displays.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising maintaining one or more apps in the memory, initiating execution of the one or more apps and displaying data on at least one of the one or more displays responsive to execution of the one or more apps.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising selecting one of the sets of identification data based on a user input, initiating execution of an app based on the user input, or supplying the user input to an executing app.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising verifying a financial transaction in response to a request from a terminal received via the one or more access interfaces.

### Claim 18

A system for operating payment instruments, comprising:
one or more server devices; and
