## Abstract

A novel maize variety designated X08F109 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof are produced by crossing inbred maize varieties. Methods for producing a maize plant by crossing hybrid maize variety X08F109 with another maize plant are disclosed. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into X08F109 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. This invention relates to the maize variety X08F109, the seed, the plant produced from the seed, and variants, mutants, and minor modifications of maize variety X08F109. This invention further relates to methods for producing maize varieties derived from maize variety X08F109.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An F1 hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed, representative F1 hybrid seed produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH1M3D with a second plant of variety PH1VTJ, wherein representative seed of said varieties PH1M3D and PH1VTJ have been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-120949 and PTA-121322, respectively.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed of claim 1, wherein a seed treatment has been applied to the seed.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

A method comprising cleaning the hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed of claim 1.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed of claim 1.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A plant, plant part, or plant cell produced by growing the hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed of claim 1, the plant, plant part or plant cell comprising at least one F1 hybrid maize variety X08F109 cell.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the plant, plant part, or plant cell of claim 5.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

A method of producing a commodity plant product comprising starch, syrup, silage, fat or protein, the method comprising producing the commodity plant product from the plant or plant part of claim 5.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising applying plant breeding techniques to the maize plant or plant part of claim 5 to produce the second maize plant.

### Claim 9 (depends on 5)

A method comprising:
(a) crossing the maize plant or plant part of claim 5 with itself or a different plant to produce progeny seed;
(b) growing the progeny seed to produce a progeny plant and crossing the progeny plant with itself or a different plant to produce further progeny seed; and
(c) repeating step (b) for at least an additional two generations to produce a second maize plant.

### Claim 10 (depends on 5)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising doubling haploid seed generated from a cross of the maize plant or plant part of claim 5 with a different maize plant.

### Claim 11

An F1 hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed further comprising a locus conversion, the converted seed being produced by crossing a first plant of variety PH1M3D with a second plant of variety PH1VTJ; representative seed of said varieties PH1M3D and PH1VTJ having been deposited under ATCC Accession Numbers PTA-120949 and PTA-121322, respectively; wherein at least one of said varieties PH1M3D and PH1VTJ further comprises a locus conversion and wherein the F1 hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed further comprising the locus conversion produces a plant having otherwise all the morphological and physiological characteristics as maize variety X08F109 when grown under the same environmental conditions.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The converted seed of claim 11, wherein a seed treatment has been applied to the seed.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

A method comprising cleaning the converted seed of claim 11.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The converted seed of claim 11, wherein the locus conversion confers a property selected from the group consisting of male sterility, site-specific recombination, abiotic stress tolerance, altered phosphorus, altered antioxidants, altered fatty acids, altered essential amino acids, altered carbohydrates, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance and disease resistance.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed of claim 11.

### Claim 16 (depends on 11)

A plant, plant part, or plant cell produced by growing the hybrid maize variety X08F109 seed of claim 11, the plant, plant part or plant cell comprising at least one F1 hybrid maize variety X08F109 cell further comprising the locus conversion.
