Claims17
A gaming system comprising:
- a housing;
- at least one display device supported by the housing;
- a plurality of input devices supported by the housing, said plurality of input devices including:
- (i) an acceptor, and
- (ii) a cashout device;
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to operate with the at least one display device and the plurality of input devices to:
- (a) if a physical item is received via the acceptor, establish a credit balance based, at least in part, on a monetary value associated with the received physical item,
- (b) display:
- (i) a symbol matrix including a plurality of symbols at a plurality of symbol display positions, and
- (ii) a symbol display window associated with the symbol matrix, the symbol display window including a plurality of symbol display window positions, wherein a quantity of the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window is less than a quantity of the symbol display positions of the symbol matrix,
- (c) for a play of a skill game:
- (i) determine a location of the symbol display window relative to the symbol matrix such that each symbol display window position of the symbol display window corresponds with one of the symbol display positions of the symbol matrix, wherein the determined location of the symbol display window is based, at least in part, on at least one skill input made by a player in association with the play of the skill game,
- (ii) for each of a plurality of the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window, display the symbol of the corresponding symbol display position of the symbol matrix,
- (iii) determine if any of the symbols displayed at the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window form any winning symbol combinations, and
- (iv) if the symbols displayed at the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window form at least one winning symbol combination, display an award for each formed winning symbol combination, and
- (d) if a cashout input is received via the cashout device, cause an initiation of any payout associated with the credit balance.

A gaming system server comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
- (a) cause at least one display device to display:
- (i) a symbol matrix including a plurality of symbols at a plurality of symbol display positions, and
- (ii) a symbol display window associated with the symbol matrix, the symbol display window including a plurality of symbol display window positions, wherein a quantity of the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window is less than a quantity of the symbol display positions of the symbol matrix, and
- (b) for a play of a skill game:
- (i) determine a location of the symbol display window relative to the symbol matrix such that each symbol display window position of the symbol display window corresponds with one of the symbol display positions of the symbol matrix, wherein the determined location of the symbol display window is based, at least in part, on at least one skill input made by a player in association with the play of the skill game,
- (ii) for each of a plurality of the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window, cause the at least one display device to display the symbol of the corresponding symbol display position of the symbol matrix,
- (iii) determine if any of the symbols displayed at the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window form any winning symbol combinations, and
- (iv) if the symbols displayed at the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window form at least one winning symbol combination, cause the at least one display device to display an award for each formed winning symbol combination, wherein a credit balance is increasable based on any displayed awards for any formed winning symbol combinations, said credit balance being increasable via an acceptor of a physical item associated with a monetary value, and said credit balance being decreasable via a cashout device.
8 more elements
A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:
- (a) causing at least one display device to display:
- (i) a symbol matrix including a plurality of symbols at a plurality of symbol display positions, and
- (ii) a symbol display window associated with the symbol matrix, the symbol display window including a plurality of symbol display window positions, wherein a quantity of the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window is less than a quantity of the symbol display positions of the symbol matrix, and
- (b) for a play of a skill game:
- (i) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to determine a location of the symbol display window relative to the symbol matrix such that each symbol display window position of the symbol display window corresponds with one of the symbol display positions of the symbol matrix, wherein the determined location of the symbol display window is based, at least in part, on at least one skill input made by a player in association with the play of the skill game,
- (ii) for each of a plurality of the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window, causing the at least one display device to display the symbol of the corresponding symbol display position of the symbol matrix,
- (iii) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine if any of the symbols displayed at the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window form any winning symbol combinations, and
- (iv) if the symbols displayed at the symbol display window positions of the symbol display window form at least one winning symbol combination, causing the at least one display device to display an award for each formed winning symbol combination, wherein a credit balance is increasable based on any displayed awards for any formed winning symbol combinations, said credit balance being increasable via an acceptor of a physical item associated with a monetary value, and said credit balance being decreasable via a cashout device.
