Abstract
A system and a method for starting a rotor of an implantable blood pump are described. For example, a blood pump system includes a rotary motor having a stator and a rotor. The rotor has permanent magnetic poles for magnetic levitation of the rotor, and the stator has a plurality of pole pieces arranged circumferentially at intervals. The blood pump system includes a controller configured to control a start phase of the rotor, wherein the start phase is prior to the rotor being positioned in a predefined geometric volume for pumping blood and wherein the start phase includes performing a rotation of the rotor by an angle larger than an angle corresponding to a quarter of an angular distance between two neighboring magnetic poles of the rotor.
Claims14
A blood pump system comprising:
- a housing including a dividing wall defining a blood flow conduit;
- a rotary motor comprising a stator and a rotor disposed within the blood flow conduit, the rotor having a predefined number of permanent magnetic poles for magnetic levitation of the rotor, the stator having a plurality of pole pieces arranged circumferentially at intervals;
- and
- a controller configured to control the stator to perform a rotation of the rotor by an angle within a predetermined range, while the rotor remains in contact with the dividing wall, to reduce magnetic attraction between the rotor and the stator;
- the angle being larger than an angle corresponding to a quarter of an angular distance between two neighboring magnetic poles of the rotor.
A blood pump system comprising:
- a housing including a dividing wall defining a blood flow conduit;
- a rotary motor comprising a stator and a rotor disposed within the blood flow conduit, the rotor having a predefined number of permanent magnetic poles for magnetic levitation of the rotor;
- and
- a controller configured to control the stator to roll the rotor from a start position to a target position, while the rotor remains in contact with the dividing wall;
- wherein a magnet of the rotor experiences a reduced magnetic attraction to the stator at the target position compared to the start position.
A blood pump system comprising:
- a housing including a dividing wall defining a blood flow conduit;
- a rotor disposed within the blood flow conduit, the rotor having a predefined number of permanent magnetic poles for magnetic levitation and rotation of the rotor within the blood flow conduit;
- a stator mounted to the housing and including a plurality of pole pieces arranged circumferentially at intervals around the rotor;
- the dividing wall being disposed between the stator and the blood flow conduit, the stator being operable to magnetically rotate and levitate the rotor within the blood flow conduit;
- and
- a controller configured to control the stator to perform at least one of a rotation or a rolling of the rotor relative to the stator, while the rotor remains in contact with the dividing wall, to reduce magnetic attraction between the rotor and the stator.
