Abstract
The systems and methods described herein include innerspring assemblies or innerspring cores for use with cushioning articles such as mattresses. The innerspring core may have one or more coil springs formed from a high-carbon steel wire alloyed with one or more suitable alloying elements such as titanium and copper and capable of imparting greater strength and durability to the innerspring core.
Claims19
An innerspring assembly, comprising:
- a plurality of coil springs, wherein at least one of the coil springs comprises a high carbon steel spring wire having a diameter of 0.04 to 0.11 inches (1.016 to 2.794 millimeters) coiled into a helical spring and alloyed with at least one alloying element;
- wherein the alloying element includes titanium in an amount from 0.001 to 0.1 weight percent of the spring, and
- wherein a total amount of the alloying element is from 0.001 to 2.0 weight percent of the spring.
An innerspring assembly, comprising:
- a plurality of coil springs, wherein at least one of the coil springs comprises a high carbon steel spring wire having a diameter of 0.04 to 0.11 inches (1.016 to 2.794 millimeters) coiled into a helical spring having an uncompressed height of 3.5 inches to 13.5 inches and alloyed with at least one alloying element comprising titanium in an amount from 0.001 to 0.1 weight percent of the spring and copper in an amount of 0.1 to 0.3 weight percent of the spring, and
- wherein a total amount of the alloying element is from 0.001 to 2.0 weight percent of the spring.
