Abstract
A novel garden bean variety, designated PV-766, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of garden bean variety PV-766, to the plants of garden bean line PV-766 and to methods for producing a bean plant by crossing the variety PV-766 with itself or another bean line. The invention further relates to methods for producing a bean plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic plants produced by that method and to methods for producing other garden bean lines derived from the variety PV-766.
Claims19
A seed of bean variety designated PV-766, wherein a representative sample of seed of said variety has been deposited under NCIMB No. 42239.
A bean plant, or a part thereof, having all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of bean variety PV-766, wherein a representative sample of seed of said variety has been deposited under NCIMB No. 42239.
A method of introducing a desired trait into bean variety PV-766 comprising:
- (a) crossing a bean variety PV-766 plant grown from bean variety PV-766 seed, wherein a representative sample of seed has been deposited under NCIMB No. 42239, with another bean plant that comprises a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of insect resistance, disease resistance, water stress tolerance, heat tolerance, improved shelf life, and improved nutritional quality;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait;
- (c) backcrossing the selected progeny plants with bean variety PV-766 to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) two or more times in succession to produce selected third or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait.
