Systems and methods for dynamic quality of service

A non-transitory computer-readable medium embedded with a computer executable program including instructions for:

• causing a router to receive a plurality of network layer or transport layer packets, each packet comprising a header and a payload;
• causing the router to:
• (i) define a connection track to be a path of a packet corresponding to the message,
• (ii) identify the packet that corresponds to the message based on the packet headers and assign the identified packet to the connection track, and
• (iii) identifying a data type of the packet based on the payload;
• causing the router to associate one or more quality of service (QoS) parameters with the connection track based on the data type, and to set a first QoS parameter in the one or more QoS parameters to a first value;
• causing the router to route the connection track in direct accordance with the one or more QoS parameters, wherein the first QoS parameter is a router path requirement;
• causing the router to route a plurality of connection tracks;
• causing the router to evaluate a router path status of a first router path specified by the first QoS parameter;
• and
• dropping one or more of the connection tracks based upon the first value for the first QoS parameter when the router load exceeds a threshold value.

A router for routing data packets corresponding to a message, the router comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory, coupled to the processor, the memory storing instructions for execution by said processor, said instructions comprising instructions for:
• receiving a plurality of network layer or transport layer packets, each packet comprising a header and a payload;
• creating a connection track by:
• (i) defining a connection track to be a path of the packet corresponding to the message,
• (ii) identifying the packet that corresponds to the message based on the packet headers and assigning the identified packet to the connection track, and
• (iii) identifying a data type of the packet based on the payload;
• associating one or more quality of service (QoS) parameters with the connection track based on the data type, and setting a first QoS parameter in the one or more QoS parameters to a first value;
• routing the connection track in direct accordance with the one or more QoS parameters, wherein the first QoS parameter is a router path requirement;
• routing a plurality of connection tracks;
• evaluating a router path status of a first router path specified by the first QoS parameter;
• and
• dropping one or more of the connection tracks based upon the first value for the first QoS parameter when the router load exceeds a threshold value.
