A pharmaceutical composition, comprising an isolated polynucleotide that encodes a methionyl-tRNA synthetase (MetRS) polypeptide of about 50 to about 100 amino acids in length and comprising an amino acid sequence that is at least 95% identical to SEQ ID NO:
- 137, wherein the polynucleotide is selected from (a) a cDNA polynucleotide and (b) a modified mRNA polynucleotide, wherein the polypeptide has an extracellular signaling activity, and wherein the composition is substantially endotoxin-free.
