Abstract
An air filter media construction or arrangement is disclosed. The air filter media construction or arrangement includes facing media secured to fluted media. A preferred projection/receiver arrangement is described. Also, a useful seal arrangement is described. Air cleaner assemblies, methods of assembly and use are also provided.
Claims21
An air filter cartridge comprising:
- (a) a media pack comprising filter media including fluted media secured to facing media and configured to define opposite flow faces;
- (i) the media pack having a non-circular cross-section, perpendicular to a flow direction between the flow faces, with a first longer dimension thereacross and a second shorter dimension thereacross perpendicular to the first longer dimension;
- (ii) the media pack being configured so that air cannot pass into one flow face and out of the other flow face without filtering flow through the filter media;
- and,
- (b) a housing seal arrangement;
- the housing seal arrangement including:
- (i) a first portion extending around a perimeter of the filter media;
- and,
- (ii) a seal member comprising a flexible lip member that also extends around the perimeter of the filter media and is positioned to flex toward the first portion of the housing seal arrangement when forming a seal against an air cleaner housing.

An air cleaner comprising:
- (a) a filter cartridge comprising:
- (i) a media pack comprising filter media including fluted media secured to facing media and configured to define opposite flow faces;
- (A) the media pack having a non-circular cross-section, perpendicular to a flow direction between the flow faces, with a first longer dimension thereacross and a second shorter dimension thereacross perpendicular to the first longer dimension;
- and,
- (B) the media pack being configured so that air cannot pass from into one flow face and out of the other flow face without filtering flow through the filter media;
- and,
- (i) a housing seal arrangement;
- the housing seal arrangement including:
- (A) a first portion extending around a perimeter of the filter media;
- and,
- (B) a seal member comprising a flexible lip member that also extends around the perimeter of the filter media and is positioned to flex toward the first portion of the housing seal arrangement when forming a seal against an air cleaner housing;
- and,
- (b) a housing having:
- an inlet, an outlet and an interior;
- (i) the filter cartridge being removably positioned in the housing interior with the flexible lip member sealed against a portion of the housing and flexed against a portion of the housing seal arrangement.
12 more elements
An air cleaner assembly comprising:
- (a) a housing defining an interior and comprising separable first and second housing sections;
- (i) the first section comprising an inlet section including an air flow inlet therein;
- (ii) the second section comprising an outlet section having an air flow outlet therein;
- (iii) the housing having a first housing cross-sectional dimension that is no more than 50% of a second cross-sectional dimension taken perpendicular to the first housing cross-sectional dimension;
- (b) a serviceable filter cartridge removably mounted within the housing interior;
- the serviceable filter cartridge comprising:
- (i) a media pack comprising filter media including fluted media secured to facing media and configured to define opposite flow faces;
- (A) the media pack being configured so that air cannot enter one face and exit the other flow face without filtering flow through the filter media;
- (ii) a housing seal member comprising a perimeter seal member extending around the media pack;
- the perimeter seal member being positioned between the first housing section and the second housing section;
- (iii) the media pack having a non-circular media pack cross-sectional shape in a plane perpendicular to the fluted media and the direction of flow through the media pack;
- the cross-sectional shape having a first cartridge cross-sectional dimension that is no more than 50% of a second cartridge cross-sectional dimension perpendicular to the first cartridge cross-sectional dimension;
- each of the first cartridge cross-sectional dimension and second cartridge cross-sectional dimension being taken in a plane perpendicular to the direction of flow through the media pack;
- and,
- (c) the first housing section having a portion that faces an inlet flow face of the media pack and which has a portion that slants toward the media pack in extension in a direction of the second housing cross-sectional dimension;
- (i) the air flow inlet being positioned off-set from a central plane through the media pack, which plane extends in a direction of flow through the media pack and perpendicular to the second cross-sectional dimension of the cartridge;
- and,
- (ii) the air flow inlet not being directed in a direction parallel to air flow through the media pack toward the air flow outlet.

An air filter cartridge for removable installation in an air cleaner housing;
- the air filter cartridge comprising:
- (a) a media pack comprising filter media including fluted media secured to facing media and configured to define opposite flow faces;
- (i) the media pack being configured so that air cannot pass into one face and out from the other flow face without filtering flow through the filter media;
- and,
- (b) a housing seal member non-removably positioned on the media pack;
- (c) the air filter cartridge including first and second opposite sides;
- (i) a first member of a projection/receiver arrangement non-removably positioned on the first side of the air filter cartridge spaced from the housing seal member and oriented for engagement with a second member of the projection/receiver arrangement positioned in the air cleaner housing, in use;
- the first member of a projection/receiver arrangement having opposite, diverging, sides.

An air filter cartridge for removable installation in an air cleaner housing;
- the air filter cartridge comprising:
- (a) a media pack comprising a stack of strips of fluted media secured to facing media and configured to define opposite inlet and outlet flow faces;
- (i) the media pack being configured so that air cannot pass into one face and out from the other flow face without filtering flow through the filter media;
- (b) a housing seal arrangement including a housing seal member non-removably positioned in extension around the media pack;
