A method of making a cationic lipid of formula I, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,
- comprising reacting dilinoleyl methanol with dimethylaminobutyric acid, or a salt thereof, under conditions to provide the cationic lipid of formula I, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
