Abstract
Methods of isoprenoid production are provided by the present invention. In particular, transgenic Synechococcus sp. PCC 7002 cyanobacteria and methods for producing isoprene and pinene using a host transgenic Synechococcus sp. PCC 7002 cyanobacterium are provided.
Claims25
A method of isoprene production, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) obtaining a host transgenic Synechococcus sp. PCC 7002 cyanobacterium comprising a polynucleotide sequence encoding isopentenyl diphosphate isomerase (IDI), a polynucleotide encoding isoprene synthase (IspS), and a promoter sequence derived from Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803;
- and
- (b) culturing the transgenic cyanobacterium under high CO2 concentration isoprene-producing conditions, wherein isoprene is produced at a rate of at least about 330 μg per gram dry weight per hour (gDW−1 h−1).
