Abstract
A method is disclosed. The method includes providing a cementitious material, the cementitious material including an absorbing material. The method also includes absorbing a fluid into the absorbing material during hydration of the cementitious material. The method further includes retaining the fluid in the absorbing material after hydration of the cementitious material.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- providing a cementitious material, the cementitious material including an absorbing material, wherein the absorbing material is a super-absorbent material that comprises hollow, tubular-shaped fibers that convey fluid through an inside of the hollow, tubular-shaped fibers by capillary action, such that a plurality of passageways extend through the concrete material;
- absorbing a fluid into the absorbing material by the capillary action during hydration of the cementitious material;
- and
- retaining the fluid in the absorbing material after hydration of the cementitious material.

A material, comprising:
- a concrete material in a hydrated state, the concrete material including a super-absorbent material dispersed throughout the concrete material, and
- an aggregate material;
- wherein the super-absorbent material comprises hollow, tubular-shaped fibers that convey fluid through an inside of the hollow, tubular-shaped fibers by capillary action, such that a plurality of passageways extend through the concrete material;
- and
- wherein the super-absorbent material is more absorbent than the aggregate material.

A method, comprising:
- providing a cementitious material, the cementitious material including an absorbing material, wherein the absorbing material is a super-absorbent material that comprises hollow, tubular-shaped fibers that convey fluid through an inside of the hollow, tubular-shaped fibers by capillary action, such that a plurality of passageways extend through the concrete material;
- absorbing a fluid into the absorbing material during hydration of the cementitious material;
- moving the fluid through the absorbing material by the capillary action during hydration of the cementitious material;
- and
- retaining the fluid in the absorbing material after hydration of the cementitious material.
