Abstract
Provided are methods of reducing milk somatic cell count using L-arginine supplementation of lactating ruminant animals during gestation, and/or during the lactation phase post parturition to decrease somatic cell count in milk produced by the animals.
Claims15
A method of decreasing somatic cell count in the milk from a lactating ruminant comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of L-arginine, NCG or NAG to elevate blood plasma arginine levels in the ruminant, said L-arginine, NCG or NAG administered during the gestation time period and/or during the lactation phase post parturition.
A method of improving mammary gland health in a ruminant as measured via somatic cell count in milk produced comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of L-arginine, NCG or NAG to elevate blood plasma arginine levels, said L-arginine, NCG or NAG administered during the gestation time period and/or during the lactation phase post parturition.
