Abstract
A method of making a modular textile system includes dividing a textile web having a length and a width into a plurality of tile areas including a first tile area, a second tile area, and a third tile area. The textile web includes a plurality of discrete design zones extending along the length of the textile web. The textile web is divided so that the first design zone is apportioned between the first tile area and the second tile area, and the second design zone is apportioned between the second tile area and the third tile area.
Claims37
A modular textile system comprising:
- a plurality of distinct textile tiles including a first tile, a second tile, and a third tile adapted to coordinate with one another, the first, second, and third tiles each having a first dimension extending in a first direction and a second dimension extending in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction,
- wherein the first, second, and third tiles collectively include a plurality of design zones, the design zones each having a length equal to the first dimension of the respective tile and a width comprising a portion of the second dimension of the respective tile, so that for each of the first, second, and third tiles,
- the design zones define discrete, lengthwise regions adjacent to one another across the second dimension of each tile, such that a sum of the widths of the design zones of the tile equals the second dimension of the tile, and
- for each pair of adjacent design zones, the adjacent design zones abut one another along a visually discernible boundary extending substantially in the first direction, such that the boundary between the adjacent design zones is substantially parallel to edges of the respective tile extending in the first direction,
- wherein the plurality of design zones includes
- a first pair of coordinating design zones extending along a respective edge of each of the first tile and the second tile extending in the first direction, wherein at least one design zone of the first pair of coordinating design zones comprises a motif, and
- a second pair of coordinating design zones extending along a respective edge of each of the second tile and the third tile extending in the first direction, wherein the second pair of coordinating design zones are distinct from the first pair of coordinating design zones and do not comprise the motif of the at least one design zone of the first pair of coordinating design zones.

A modular textile system comprising:
- a plurality of distinct textile tiles including a first tile, a second tile, and a third tile, wherein the first tile, second tile, and third tile each have a first dimension extending in a first direction and a second dimension extending in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction,
- wherein
- the first dimension of the first tile, second tile, and third tile are substantially the same, and the second dimension of the first tile, second tile, and third tile are substantially the same,
- the first tile, second tile, and third tile collectively include a plurality of design zones, the design zones each having a length equal to the first dimension of the respective tile and a width comprising a portion of the second dimension of the respective tile, so that a sum of the widths of the plurality of design zones is equal to a sum of the second dimensions of the first, second, and third tiles, and so that the design zones define discrete regions across the second dimension of each tile, the regions each having a substantially rectangular shape, wherein the plurality of design zones each have an appearance defined by tufted yarns, the tufted yarns of each design zone being configured to define a visually discernible boundary between each pair of adjacent design zones, wherein the boundary between the adjacent design zones of each pair of adjacent design zones extends substantially in the first direction substantially parallel to edges of the respective tile extending in the first direction, and
- the plurality of design zones include
- a first pair of coordinating design zones, the design zones of the first pair of coordinating design zones each being positioned adjacent to a respective edge of each of the first tile and the second tile, the edge extending in the first direction along the first dimension of the first tile and the second tile, wherein tufted yarns of the design zones of the first pair of coordinating design zones are configured so that the design zones of the first pair of coordinating design zones have an appearance that differs from one another, and
- a second pair of coordinating design zones, the design zones of the second pair of coordinating design zones each being positioned adjacent to a respective edge of each of the second tile and the third tile, the edge extending in the first direction along the first dimension of the second tile and the third tile, wherein the tufted yarns of the second pair of coordinating design zones are configured to have an appearance that differs from an appearance of the first pair of coordinating design zones.
