Abstract
A mold device and a method related thereto for forming a plastic container from a preform. The mold device comprises a mold defining a mold cavity, a stretch initiation rod system for engaging an interior portion of the preform to define a stretch initiation area, and a centrally disposed pressure source positionable within the preform for introducing a pressurized fluid.
Claims7
A method of forming a plastic container from a preform, said method comprising:
- heating the preform;
- inserting the preform within a mold cavity;
- introducing a pressurized liquid into the preform to expand the preform to closely conform to said mold cavity;
- and
- actuating a stretch initiation rod system to engage an interior portion of the preform and axially stretch the preform, after introducing at least a portion of said pressurized liquid further actuating said stretch initiation rod system to position a portion of the stretch initiation rod system within the pressurized liquid so as to correspond in volume to a desired headspace within the container.
