Abstract
A method and device for emitting electromagnetic radiation at high power using a gallium containing substrates such as GaN, AN, InN, InGaN, AlGaN, and AlInGaN, is provided.
Claims19
An optical system comprising:
- a gallium and nitrogen containing laser diode device configured to emit a first electromagnetic radiation with a first wavelength, the laser diode device comprising:
- a gallium and nitrogen containing surface having a semipolar or nonpolar surface orientation;
- a laser stripe overlying a portion of the gallium and nitrogen containing surface, the laser stripe configured to generate the first electromagnetic radiation with the first wavelength;
- and
- a pair of facets on the ends of the laser stripe, wherein one of the facets is configured to emit the first electromagnetic radiation with the first wavelength generated in the laser stripe;
- a color converting device configured to interact with the first electromagnetic radiation with the first wavelength emitted from the laser diode device and output a second electromagnetic radiation with a second wavelength, the second wavelength being different from the first wavelength;
- and the color converting device configured as a lens to output the second electromagnetic radiation with a predetermined beam shape.
