Acoustic data transmission based on groups of audio receivers

A method for acoustic data reception, the method comprising:

• acoustically detecting playback of modified audio content by a first receiving entity, wherein the modified audio content comprises perceptible audio content and data encoded as imperceptible audio content,
• acoustically detecting playback of the modified audio content by a second receiving entity spatially diverse from the first receiving entity and operatively connected to the first receiving entity via a network selected from an ad-hoc Bluetooth network and an ad-hoc wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) network;
• decoding the data based on the acoustically detected playback of the modified audio content, wherein the data is collaboratively decoded by the first receiving entity and the second receiving entity using the network and according to a diversity scheme comprising adaptive space diversity with spreading code correlation sequences and cyclic redundancy check (CRC) optimization, wherein decoding the data includes independently decoding intermediate data from the modified audio content by each receiving entity and combining the intermediate data via majority voting to determine a final value for each bit of the data, wherein the majority voting is weighted based on a respective receiver weight associated with each receiving entity, wherein tie votes are determined in favor of a predefined bit value;
• and
• performing an action by the first receiving entity based on the collaboratively decoded data.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing a program, which when executed is configured to perform an operation to collaboratively interpret acoustically detected playback of imperceptible audio content, the operation comprising:

• during playback of audio content having perceptible audio content and augmented to include imperceptible audio content, acoustically detecting playback of both the perceptible audio content and the imperceptible audio content of the augmented audio content, by each of a first receiving entity and a second receiving entity operatively connected to the first receiving entity via a network;
• collaboratively decoding, by operation of one or more networked computer processors when executing the program, the acoustically detected playback of the imperceptible audio content by the first and second receiving entities over the network and according to a predefined diversity scheme;
• and
• generating an output by at least one of the first and second receiving entities, based on the acoustically detected, collaboratively decoded playback of the imperceptible audio content.

A system to collaboratively interpret acoustically detected playback of imperceptible audio content, the system comprising:

• one or more networked computer processors;
• and
• a memory containing a program, which when executed by the one or more networked computer processors is configured to perform an operation comprising:
• during playback of audio content having perceptible audio content and augmented to include imperceptible audio content, acoustically detecting playback of both the perceptible audio content and the imperceptible audio content of the augmented audio content, by each of a first receiving entity and a second receiving entity operatively connected to the first receiving entity via a network;
• collaboratively decoding the acoustically detected playback of the imperceptible audio content by the first and second receiving entities over the network and according to a predefined diversity scheme;
• and
• generating an output by at least one of the first and second receiving entities, based on the acoustically detected, collaboratively decoded playback of the imperceptible audio content.
