Abstract
A pre-chamber is provided. In one embodiment, the pre-chamber is part of a two-stroke combustion engine having a cylinder head with a sparkplug receptacle that has a generally frustoconical shape, and the pre-chamber is coupled to the sparkplug receptacle. The pre-chamber may include a cooling jacket with a generally frustoconical shape and a combustion chamber having an upper zone and a lower zone, which may be narrower than the upper zone.
Claims34
A system, comprising:
- a cylinder head having a first side with a mounting interface configured to removably couple to a cylinder of an engine, wherein the cylinder head comprises:
- first and second receptacles in a second side, wherein the first and second receptacles are angled inwardly toward one another from the second side toward the first side of the cylinder head;
- and
- a dome-shaped volume recessed into the first side of the cylinder head in fluid communication with the first and receptacles, wherein the dome-shaped volume extends across a central axis of the cylinder head, and a depth of the dome-shaped volume increases toward the central axis;
- and
- a first pre-combustion chamber removably coupled to the first receptacle.

A system, comprising:
- a cylinder head having a first side with a mounting interface configured to removably couple to a cylinder of an engine, wherein the cylinder head comprises:
- a first receptacle in a second side, wherein a first axis of the first receptacle is disposed at a first offset distance away from a central axis of the cylinder head, and the first axis of the first receptacle is angled at a first angle relative to the central axis of the cylinder head;
- a second receptacle in the second side, wherein a second axis of the second receptacle is disposed at a second offset distance away from the central axis of the cylinder head, the second axis of the second receptacle is angled at a second angle relative to the central axis of the cylinder head, and the first and second axes are angled inwardly toward one another from the second side toward the first side of the cylinder head;
- and
- a dome-shaped volume recessed into the first side of the cylinder head, wherein the dome-shaped volume extends across the central axis of the cylinder head, the first and second receptacles intersect with an inwardly curved surface within the dome-shaped volume, the inwardly curved surface is symmetric relative to the central axis, and a depth of the dome-shaped volume increases toward the central axis.

- and
- a dome-shaped volume recessed into the first side of the cylinder head, wherein the first and second receptacles intersect with an inwardly curved surface within the dome-shaped volume, and a depth of the dome-shaped volume increases toward the central axis;
- and
- a first pre-combustion chamber removably coupled to the first receptacle.
