Abstract
A composite member for a downhole tool that includes a resilient portion; and a deformable portion having at least one groove formed therein, wherein the resilient portion and the deformable portion are made of a first material, and wherein a second material is disposed around the deformable portion and at least partially fills into the at least one groove.
Claims19
A composite member for a downhole tool comprising:
- a resilient portion;
- and
- a deformable portion having at least one groove formed therein, wherein the resilient portion and the deformable portion are made of a first material, wherein a second material is bonded to the deformable portion and at least partially fills into the at least one groove, wherein the downhole tool is selected from a group consisting of a frac plug and a bridge plug, and wherein the second material comprises at least one of an elastomer, polyurethane, and silicone.
A downhole tool useable for isolating sections of a wellbore, the downhole tool comprising:
- a mandrel;
- a composite member disposed about the mandrel and in engagement with a seal element also disposed about the mandrel, wherein the composite member is made of a first material and comprises a first portion and a second portion, wherein the first portion comprises an outer surface, an inner surface, a top, and a bottom, wherein a depth of at least one groove extends from the outer surface to the inner surface, and wherein the at least one groove is formed between about the bottom to about the top.
A downhole tool useable for isolating sections of a wellbore, the downhole tool comprising:
- a mandrel made of a composite material;
- a composite member disposed about the mandrel, wherein the composite member further comprises a resilient portion, and a deformable portion having at least one groove formed therein, wherein the resilient portion and the deformable portion are made of a first material, wherein a second material is at least partially disposed into the at least one groove and around the deformable portion, wherein the deformable portion comprises an outer surface, an inner surface, a top, and a bottom, wherein a depth of at least one groove extends from the outer surface to the inner surface, and wherein the at least one groove is formed between about the bottom to about the top.
A composite member for a downhole tool comprising:
- a resilient portion;
- and
- a deformable portion having at least one groove formed therein, wherein the resilient portion and the deformable portion are made of a first material, wherein a second material is bonded to the deformable portion and at least partially fills into the at least one groove, wherein the deformable portion comprises an outer surface, an inner surface, a top edge, and a bottom edge, wherein a depth of at least one groove extends from the outer surface to the inner surface, and wherein the at least one groove is formed from about the bottom edge to about the top edge.
A downhole tool useable for isolating sections of a wellbore, the downhole tool comprising:
- a mandrel;
- a first slip;
- a first cone;
- a bearing plate;
- a lower sleeve;
- a second slip;
- a second cone;
- and
- a composite member disposed about the mandrel and in engagement with a seal element also disposed about the mandrel, wherein the composite member is made of a first material and comprises a first portion and a second portion, wherein the first portion comprises an outer surface, an inner surface, a top, and a bottom.
A downhole tool useable for isolating sections of a wellbore, the downhole tool comprising:
- a mandrel made of a composite material, wherein the mandrel comprises a set of shear threads configured for engagement with a setting tool, and a set of rounded threads configured for engagement with a lower sleeve;
- and
- a composite member disposed about the mandrel, wherein the composite member further comprises a resilient portion, and a deformable portion having at least one groove formed therein, wherein the resilient portion and the deformable portion are made of a first material, and wherein a second material is at least partially disposed into the at least one groove and around the deformable portion.
