Abstract
The invention relates to a method for providing neuroprotection comprising administering to a subject an effective amount of a miRNA or a variant thereof. By providing neuroprotection, stroke or ischemic stroke can be prevented and/or treated.

A method for treating a subject suffering from neuronal or brain injury or neurodegenerative diseases, comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a microRNA selected from a miRNA-195, a modified miRNA-195 and a combination thereof.
