Abstract
A pressure sensitive adhesive construct comprising: (a) a backing substrate; and (b) a pressure sensitive adhesive composition disposed on the backing substrate, wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive includes a product made from at least one epoxidized vegetable oil and at least one dibasic acid or anhydride, or a combination of a dibasic acid or anhydride and a monobasic acid or anhydride.

A pressure sensitive adhesive construct comprising:
- (a) a backing substrate;
- and
- (b) a pressure sensitive adhesive composition disposed on the backing substrate, wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive composition includes:
- (i) a reaction product made by initially reacting an epoxidized vegetable oil with at least one dibasic acid or anyhdride thereof to produce a prepolymer product, wherein the amount of dibasic acid or anhydride reacted with the epoxidized vegetable oil is sufficient to provide a 5 to 80 mol % excess of carboxylic acid groups over that required to esterify all the epoxy groups present in the at least one epoxidized vegetable oil;
- applying the prepolymer product onto the backing substrate or a release liner;
- and
- further reacting the prepolymer product to produce the pressure sensitive adhesive construct;
- or
- (ii) a reaction product made by initially reacting the epoxidized vegetable oil with a combination of a dibasic acid or anhydride thereof and a monobasic acid or anhydride thereof to produce a prepolymer product, wherein the amount of dibasic acid or anhydride and monobasic acid or anhydride reacted with the epoxidized vegetable oil is sufficient to provide a 5 to 80 mol % excess of carboxylic acid groups over that required to esterify all the epoxy groups present in the at least one epoxidized vegetable oil;
- applying the prepolymer product onto the backing substrate or a release liner;
- and
- further reacting the prepolymer product to produce the pressure sensitive adhesive construct.
A pressure sensitive adhesive construct comprising:
- (a) a backing substrate;
- and
- (b) a pressure sensitive adhesive composition disposed on the backing substrate, wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive comprises (i) a polyester that is made from polymerization of an epoxidized vegetable oil with at least one dibasic aliphatic saturated carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof, or (ii) a polyester that is made from polymerization of an epoxidized vegetable oil with a combination of a dibasic aliphatic saturated carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof and a monobasic aliphatic saturated carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof.
A pressure sensitive adhesive composition made by a method comprising:
- (a) reacting at least one epoxidized vegetable oil with at least one monobasic aliphatic saturated carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof resulting in a modified epoxidized vegetable oil;
- and
- (b) reacting the modified epoxidized vegetable oil with at least one dibasic acid or anhydride thereof, or reacting the modified epoxidized vegetable oil with a combination of at least one dibasic acid or anhydride thereof and a monobasic acid or anhydride thereof, to produce a pressure sensitive adhesive composition.
A pressure sensitive adhesive construct comprising:
- (a) a backing substrate;
- and
- (b) a pressure sensitive adhesive composition disposed on the backing substrate, wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive composition includes a reaction product made by
- (i) reacting at least one epoxidized vegetable oil with at least one monobasic aliphatic saturated carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof resulting in a modified epoxidized vegetable oil;
- and
- (ii) reacting the modified epoxidized vegetable oil with at least one dibasic acid or anhydride thereof, or reacting the modified epoxidized vegetable oil with a combination of at least one dibasic acid or anhydride thereof and a monobasic acid or anhydride thereof, to produce the pressure sensitive adhesive composition.
