Abstract
A composition comprising Bifidobacterium breve, a non-digestible saccharide A and a non-digestible saccharide B, optionally combined with Lactobacillus paracasei and the use of said composition for the treatment and/or prevention of gastro-intestinal disorder, immune disorder and/or endocrine disorder.
Claims13
An infant formula composition having a viscosity between 1 and 6 mPa·s and a caloric density between 10 and 250 kcal per 100 ml comprising:
- a. Bifidobacterium breve;
- b. a first non-digestible saccharide having a degree of polymerisation between 2 and 8 and at least 60 mol % of the total monosaccharide units of the first non-digestible saccharide are fructose;
- and
- c. a second non-digestible saccharide having a degree of polymerisation between 8 and 100 and at least 60 mol % of the total monosaccharide units of the second non-digestible saccharide are fructose;
- wherein
- i. the average degree of polymerisation of the first non-digestible saccharide is at least 5 monosaccharide units lower than the average degree of polymerisation of the second non-digestible saccharide;
- ii. the concentration of the first saccharide is between 50 mg and 2 g per 100 ml and the concentration of the second saccharide is between 5 mg and 1 g per 100 ml;
- and
- iii. a non-digestible saccharide is a saccharide that is not digested in the upper intestinal tract of a human infant.
A method for providing nutrition to an infant comprising administering to the infant a nutritional composition having a viscosity between 1 and 6 mPa·s and a caloric density between 10 and 250 kcal per 100 ml and comprising:
- a. Bifidobacterium breve;
- b. a first non-digestible saccharide having a degree of polymerisation between 2 and 8 and at least 60 mol % of the total monosaccharide units of the first non-digestible saccharide are fructose;
- and
- c. a second non-digestible saccharide having a degree of polymerisation between 8 and 100 and at least 60 mol % of the total monosaccharide units of the second non-digestible saccharide are fructose;
- wherein the average degree of polymerisation of the first non-digestible saccharide is at least 5 monosaccharide units lower than the average degree of polymerisation of the second non-digestible saccharide and the concentration of the first saccharide is at least 50 mg per 100 ml and the concentration of the second saccharide is at least 5 mg per 100 ml.
