Abstract
A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, an encoder having a controller adapted to receive a digital video stream with metadata, retrieve from at least a portion of the metadata a native video format, configure encoding of at least a portion of the digital video stream according to the retrieved native video format, generate from at least the portion of the digital video stream an encoded video stream conforming to a moving picture experts group format and the native video format, and submit the encoded video stream to an acquisition server for multicast distribution. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Claims17
A method, comprising:
- retrieving, by a system comprising a processor, a native video format from a portion of an active format descriptor field of a digital video stream;
- encoding, by the system, a portion of the digital video stream according to the native video format;
- generating, by the system, from the portion of the digital video stream an encoded video stream conforming to a moving picture experts group format and the native video format, wherein the generating comprises inserting an indication of the native video format in a portion of an active format descriptor field of the encoded video stream;
- and
- sending, by the system, the encoded video stream to an acquisition server for multicast distribution.
A method, comprising:
- retrieving, by a system comprising a processor, a native video format from metadata of a digital video stream;
- encoding, by the system, a portion of the digital video stream according to the native video format;
- and
- generating, by the system, from the portion of the digital video stream an encoded video stream conforming to a moving picture experts group format and the native video format, wherein a portion of an active format descriptor field of the encoded video stream includes an indication of the native video format.
A method, comprising:
- receiving, by a system including a processor, a digital video stream comprising information associated with a native video format;
- retrieving, by the system, the information associated with the native video format;
- encoding, by the system, a portion of the digital video stream according to the native video format;
- generating, by the system, from the portion of the digital video stream an encoded video stream conforming to a moving picture experts group format and the native video format, wherein a portion of an active format descriptor field of the encoded video stream includes an indication of the native video format;
- and
- sending, by the system, the encoded video stream for multicast distribution.
