Notification of a change to user selected content

A system for notification of a change to content of a document, comprising:

• a processor;
• a module operable on the processor for allowing a user to dynamically select a variable amount of content of the document, that is less than all of the content of the document, for which a notification of a change to the selected variable amount of content is desired, wherein the user is not required to select a predefined section or block of the content of the document that is a fixed amount of content of the document;
• a mechanism for allowing entry of a name for the selected variable amount of content, wherein the mechanism for allowing entry of the name for the selected variable amount of content is configured for performing a set of additional functions comprising:
• allowing entry by the user of an address for transmitting the notification;
• allowing specification by the user of a predefined criteria for creating the notification;
• and
• allowing specification by the user of a condition for transmitting the notification;
• a module operable on the processor for detecting a change to the selected variable amount of content being made by another user;
• a module operable on the processor for creating the notification of the change to the selected variable amount of content;
• and
• a module operable on the processor for transmitting the notification of the change to the selected variable amount of content to the user that dynamically selected the variable amount of content of the document, the notification being transmitted in response to the change to the selected variable amount of content of the document being saved by the other user.

A computer program product for notification of a change to content of a document, the computer program product comprising:

• a non-transitory computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code embodied therewith, the computer readable program code comprising:
• computer readable program code configured to allow a user to dynamically select a variable amount of content of the document for which a notification of a change to the selected variable amount of content is desired;
• computer readable program code configured to allow entry of a name for the selected variable amount of content, wherein the computer program code configured to allow entry of the name for the selected variable amount of content is configured for performing a set of additional functions comprising:
• allowing entry by the user of an address for transmitting the notification;
• allowing specification by the user of a predefined criteria for creating the notification;
• and
• allowing specification by the user of a condition for transmitting the notification;
• computer readable program code configured to detect a change to the selected variable amount of content being made by another user;
• computer readable program code configured to create the notification of the change to the selected variable amount of content;
• and
• computer readable program code configured to transmit the notification of the change to the selected variable amount of content to the user that dynamically selected the variable amount of content of the document, the notification being transmitted in response to the change to the selected variable amount of content of the document being saved by the other user.
