Abstract
A traffic monitoring system includes one or more processors operable to collect location data from a third-party network having a mobile user, weight at least one element of the location data based on reliability, and generate traffic speed data at a roadway location based on the weighted data. The third-party network is one of a mobile communication network, a computer network, a television network, a radio network, and a road sign display network. The one or more processors are operable to deliver the traffic speed data at the roadway location to an alternate third-party network. The alternate third-party network is one of a mobile communication network, a computer network, a television network, a radio network, and a road sign display network.
Claims16
A traffic monitoring system, comprising:
- one or more processors configured to:
- collect travel data from at least one mobile device in a third-party network;
- weight at least one element of the travel data based on a proximity of the at least one mobile device to a boundary of a roadway;
- and
- generate traffic speed data at a roadway location based on the weighted data.
A method for monitoring traffic, the method comprising:
- collecting, by one or more processors and/or circuits, travel data from at least one mobile device in a third-party network;
- weighting. by the one or more processors and/or circuits, at least one element of the travel data based on a proximity of the at least one mobile device to a boundary of a roadway;
- and
- generating, by the one or more processors and/or circuits, traffic speed data at a roadway location based on the weighted data.
