Using surfaces with printed patterns for identification of imaging and data processing activities

A method for identifying information associated with data for a photographed image, comprising:

• detecting a reference pattern printed on a surface of an object in the image by examining the data, wherein the data corresponds to a business card and a business card holder;
• locating the reference pattern in a table of patterns;
• determining that the object is a business card holder according to the reference pattern;
• and
• determining business card information from the data in response to determining that the object is a business card holder.

Computer software, provided in a non-transitory computer-readable medium, that identifies additional information associated with a greeting card in a photographed image that includes the greeting card, the software comprising:

• executable code that detects a reference pattern printed on a surface of the greeting card;
• executable code that locates the reference pattern in a table of patterns;
• and
• executable code that determines the additional information according to the reference pattern, wherein the reference pattern identifies a sender of the greeting card.

Computer software, provided in a non-transitory computer-readable medium, that identifies information associated with data for a photographed image, the software comprising:

• executable code that detects a reference pattern printed on a surface of an object in the image by examining the data, wherein the data corresponds to a business card and a business card holder;
• executable code that locates the reference pattern in a table of patterns;
• executable code that determines that the object is a business card holder according to the reference pattern;
• and
• executable code that determines business card information from the data in response to determining that the object is a business card holder.
