Abstract
An apparatus and method for controlling an avatar using expression control points are provided. The apparatus may track positions of feature points and a head movement from an expression of a user, remove the head movement from the positions of the feature points, and generate expression control points. Accordingly, the expression of the user may be reflected to a face of the avatar.
Claims19
An apparatus comprising:
- a processor configured to control one or more processor-executable units;
- an expression tracking processor unit configured to extract 3D positions of feature points of a facial expression of a face of a user and to track a 3D head movement of the user using the extracted 3D positions of the feature points;
- a feature point position resetting processor unit configured to reset the 3D position of the feature points of the facial expression with respect to a reference expression of the user looking forward by removing the 3D head movement from the extracted 3D positions of the feature points;
- and
- a control point generating processor unit configured to generate expression control points using an expression parameter based on the reset 3D positions of the feature points
- wherein the 3D head movement comprises movement, scale and rotation of the head of the user.

A method comprising:
- extracting 3D positions of feature points of a facial expression of a face of a user and tracking a 3D head movement of the user using the extracted 3D position of the feature points;
- resetting the 3D positions of the feature points of the facial expression with respect to a reference expression of the user looking forward by removing the 3D head movement from the extracted 3D positions of the feature points;
- and
- generating, by way of a processor, expression control points using an expression parameter based on the reset 3D positions of the feature points,
- wherein the 3D head movement comprises movement, scale and rotation of the head of the user.

A method of controlling an avatar, the method comprising:
- extracting 3D positions of feature points of a facial expression of a face of a user and tracking a 3D head movement of the user using the extracted 3D positions of the feature points
- generating, by way of a processor, expression control points for controlling the avatar using an expression parameter obtained by resetting the 3D positions of the feature points of the facial expression with respect to a reference expression of the user looking forward by removing the 3D head movement of the user from the extracted 3D positions of the feature points
- wherein the 3D head movement comprises movement, scale and rotation of the head of the user.
