Abstract
Systems and methods for translating an oscillating electrical signal from a first impedance to an input impedance of a load include an adaptor that further includes at least one coaxial portion and an antenna portion. The at least one coaxial portion has a first end and a second end, and is configured to translate the oscillating electrical signal to the input impedance of the load. The antenna portion is coupled to the second end of the at least one coaxial portion and is disposed within the load. The antenna portion is configured to radiate electromagnetic signals corresponding to the oscillating electrical signal into the load.
Claims19
A system comprising:
- an adaptor configured to receive an oscillating electrical signal, and to translate the oscillating electrical signal from a first impedance to an input impedance of a load, wherein the adaptor includes
- at least one coaxial portion having a first end and a second end, wherein the at least one coaxial portion is configured to translate the oscillating electrical signal to the input impedance of the load, and
- an antenna portion coupled to the second end of the at least one coaxial portion and disposed within the load, wherein the antenna portion is configured to radiate electromagnetic signals corresponding to the oscillating electrical signal into the load;
- and
- the load, wherein the load includes a waveguide and a cavity, and the antenna portion is disposed within the waveguide at or near an input of the waveguide, and the waveguide is configured to direct the electromagnetic signals radiated by the antenna portion into the cavity.
A system comprising:
- an adaptor configured to receive an oscillating electrical signal, and to translate the oscillating electrical signal from a first impedance to an input impedance of a load selected from a waveguide and a cavity, wherein the adaptor includes
- a first coaxial portion having a first inner conductor with a first diameter, a first surrounding dielectric portion, and a first outer shielding portion, wherein the first coaxial portion has a first impedance at a first frequency;
- and
- a second coaxial portion coupled to the first coaxial portion, wherein the second coaxial portion has a second inner conductor with a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter, a second surrounding dielectric portion, and a second outer shielding portion, wherein the second coaxial portion has a second impedance at the first frequency.
A method for translating an oscillating electrical signal from a first impedance to an input impedance of a load, the method comprising the steps of:
- receiving the oscillating electrical signal at a first end of a first coaxial portion of an adaptor, wherein the first coaxial portion has a first inner conductor with a first diameter, and wherein the first coaxial portion translates the oscillating electrical signal from the first impedance to a second impedance;
- receiving the oscillating electrical signal at a first end of a second coaxial portion of the adaptor, wherein the first end of the second coaxial portion is coupled to a second end of the first coaxial portion, and wherein the second coaxial portion has a second inner conductor with a second diameter that is different from the first diameter, wherein the second coaxial portion translates the oscillating electrical signal to a third impedance;
- and
- radiating electromagnetic signals corresponding to the oscillating electrical signals into the load by an antenna portion coupled to a second end of the second coaxial portion.
