Abstract
Embodiments of a base transceiver station and method for transmitting are described herein. In some embodiments, data is transmitted over a downlink channel in accordance with a selected one of a plurality of transmission modes. The base transceiver station may be configurable to transmit data in accordance with each of the transmission modes. One of the transmissions modes may be selected for the data transmission based at least in part on feedback reported by a subscriber unit. The transmission modes include at least a single antenna mode, a transmit diversity mode, and a spatial multiplexing mode.
Claims24
A base transceiver station comprising:
- transceiver circuitry configurable to transmit data over a downlink channel in accordance with each of a plurality of transmission modes;
- and
- processing circuitry comprising logic to select one of the transmission modes for the data transmission based at least in part on feedback reported by a subscriber unit,
- wherein the logic is arranged to configure the transceiver circuitry to transmit the data over the downlink channel in accordance with the selected transmission mode,
- wherein the transmission modes include at least a single antenna mode, a transmit diversity mode, and a spatial multiplexing mode, and
- wherein the transceiver circuitry is configured to switch between the transmission modes.
A method for transmitting performed by a base transceiver station, the method comprising:
- transmitting data over a downlink channel in accordance with a selected one of a plurality of transmission modes, the base transceiver station being configurable to transmit data in accordance with each of the transmission modes;
- and
- selecting one of the transmission modes for the data transmission based at least in part on feedback reported by a subscriber unit,
- wherein the transmission modes include at least a single antenna mode, a transmit diversity mode, and a spatial multiplexing mode, and
- wherein the selecting switches between the transmission modes.
A base transceiver station comprising:
- transceiver circuitry coupled with two or more antennas and configurable to transmit data over a downlink channel in accordance with each of a plurality of transmission modes;
- and
- processing circuitry comprising logic to select one of the transmission modes for the data transmission based at least in part on feedback reported by a subscriber unit,
- wherein the logic is arranged to configure the transceiver circuitry to transmit the data over the downlink channel in accordance with the selected transmission mode and in accordance with an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) protocol,
- wherein the transmission modes include at least a single antenna mode, a transmit diversity mode, and a spatial multiplexing mode,
- wherein the logic is further arranged to reconfigure the transceiver circuitry for transmission of data in accordance with another one of the transmission modes in response to selection of another one of the transmission modes,
- wherein the feedback from the subscriber unit indicates channel transmission characteristics and capabilities of the subscriber unit to receive in accordance with at least one of the transmission modes, and
- wherein the transceiver circuitry is configured to switch between the transmission modes.
