An energy delivery system for a gate drive unit controlling a thyristor-based valve, the thyristor-based valve including a stack of multiple levels disposed in a main current path of valve and arranged in a supporting structure and supplied with feeding lines, each level comprising:
- one layered heatsink, disposed between:
- one thyristor packaged in a hockey-puck type package, and
- one current transformer coil placed at a t cathode potential.
