Compositions and methods for modulating melanogenesis by modifying tyrosinase palmitoylation are provided.

Dependent claims

A method for increasing the appearance of melanin in mammalian skin or hair in need of such increase, comprising treating the skin or hair with a melanin-increasing effective amount of at least one inhibitor of an aspartate-histidine-histidine-cysteine domain (DHHC) selected from the group consisting of DHHC 2, 3, 7, 15, 6, 11, 17, 21, or 22.
