Abstract
Embodiments related to a touch fastener and its methods of manufacture and use are disclosed. In one embodiment, the touch fastener may include a substrate with a first portion and a second portion displaceable relative to the first portion. A first fastening element may be formed in the first portion. When the first portion is displaced relative to the second portion, a force and/or moment generated by the displacement may cause the first fastening element to be deployed.
Claims18
A planar substrate with an upper surface, the substrate including a first portion and a second portion displaceable relative to each other, wherein the first portion and the second portion are constructed to lie in a flat plane and to be displaced away from each other in a linear direction within the flat plane;
- a first fastening element formed in the first portion, wherein the first fastening element includes a first stem attached to a fastening portion and to the first portion, the first fastening element being movable from a non-deployed position lying within the planar substrate to a deployed position protruding above the upper surface of the planar substrate;
- and
- a first deployment link extending between the second portion and either the fastening portion or the first stem of the first fastening element, wherein when the first portion and the second portion are displaced relative to each other in a linear direction within the flat plane, the first deployment link applies a force and/or moment generated by the displacement to the first fastening element, and wherein the first fastening element is moved to the deployed position by the applied force and/or moment.
