Abstract
A smoking article (10, 20, 30) comprises a filter (4) having a flavor release segment (14, 24) including a plurality of flavor granules. The flavor granules are formed of a compacted herbaceous plant material and have a bulk density of at least 0.35 grams per cubic centimeters. The plant material preferably comprises herb leaf and most preferably peppermint leaf. The flavor granules may be distributed in a plug of fibrous filtration material or may be provided in a cavity within the filter (4).
Claims16
A smoking article comprising a plurality of flavour granules formed of a compacted herbaceous plant material capable of releasing flavour into the smoke produced by the smoking article, wherein original herbaceous plant material is compacted to increase bulk density and form the compacted herbaceous plant material such that bulk density of the flavour granules is at least 1.5 times bulk density of the original herbaceous plant material, the bulk density of the flavour granules being at least 0.35 grams per cubic centimetres and no more than 2 grams per cubic centimeter and wherein the flavour granules are free of non-water binder material.
Method of forming a smoking article comprising the steps of:
- combining a plurality of flavour granules in a smoking article, wherein the flavour granules are formed of a compacted herbaceous plant material capable of releasing flavour into the smoke produced by the smoking article, wherein original herbaceous plant material is compacted to increase bulk density and form the compacted herbaceous plant material such that bulk density of the flavour granules is at least 1.5 times bulk density of the original herbaceous plant material, the bulk density of the flavour granules being at least 0.35 grams per cubic centimetres and no more than 2 grams per cubic centimeter and wherein the flavour granules are free of non-water binder material.
