Abstract
A combination of mutually exclusive cell-based analytical techniques can be applied to the same group of cells for analysis. The same group of cells can be prepared for analysis by each technique resulting with candidate cells targeted for mass cytometry analysis. This configuration allows for the correlation of the information between each technique to produce a matrix of multi dimension of cellular information with the same group of cells.

A system for elemental tagged cell analysis comprising:
- at least one interrogator configured to identify a location at a candidate cell, the candidate cell associated with an elemental tag;
- a data source having a format to record the location at the candidate cell;
- a laser ablation system interfaced with the data source, the laser ablation system configured to direct at least one laser pulse at the location at the candidate cell to generate a discrete plume from the location at the candidate cell, the discrete plume including the elemental tag;
- and
- a mass cytometer coupled to the laser ablation system, the mass cytometer configured to receive the plume with the elemental tag and configured to detect the elemental tag associated with the candidate cell.

A system for elemental tagged cell analysis comprising:
- an interrogator configured to identify candidate cells from a group of cells comprising candidate cells and non-candidate cells based on a property of interest specific to the candidate cells, at least some of the candidate cells associated with at least one elemental tag;
- a data source having a format configured to record cell locations at the candidate cells identified by the interrogator;
- a laser ablation system interfaced with the data source, the laser ablation system configured to direct one or more laser pulses at the locations recorded by the data source to generate discrete plumes from the locations at the candidate cells, the discrete plumes including the elemental tag;
- and
- a mass cytometer coupled to the laser ablation system, the mass cytometer configured to receive the plumes with the elemental tag and configured to detect the elemental tags removed from each of the locations by the laser pulses.

A system for elemental tagged cell analysis comprising:
- an interrogator configured to identify candidate cells from a group of cells comprising the candidate cells and non-candidate cells based on a property specific to the candidate cells, at least some of the candidate cells associated with at least one elemental tag;
- a data source having a format configured to record locations for the candidate cells identified by the interrogator;
- a laser ablation system interfaced with the data source, the laser ablation system configured to direct one or more laser pulses at the cell locations recorded by the data source for the identified candidate cells to generate a plurality of discrete plumes from the cell locations, at least some of the discrete plumes including the elemental tag;
- and
- a mass cytometer, the mass cytometer comprising an inductively coupled plasma ion source configured to ionize the elemental tags in the discrete plumes, the mass cytometer configured to detect the elemental tags removed from the cell locations by the laser pulses.
