Abstract
At least one novel virus capable of infecting crazy ants (Nylanderia fulva) is isolated, along with polynucleotide sequences and amino acid sequences of the virus. The virus is capable of be used as a biopesticide to control populations of crazy ants.
Claims8
A method of reducing the population of crazy ants in a colony or eradicating a colony of crazy ants comprising applying, in an amount effective to kill crazy ants, a biopesticide to areas around a crazy ant colony or to areas where the crazy ants feed, wherein said biopesticide comprises a virus that infects and kills crazy ants and a carrier, wherein said virus comprises a polynucleotide having a sequence which encodes an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 97.
A method of reducing the population of crazy ants in a colony or eradicating a colony of crazy ants comprising applying, in an amount effective to kill crazy ants, a biopesticide to areas around a crazy ant colony or to areas where the crazy ants feed, wherein said biopesticide comprises a virus that infects and kills crazy ants and a carrier, wherein said virus comprises a polynucleotide having a sequence which encodes an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase having an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of an amino acid sequence that is at least 95% identical to amino acids 1-300 of SEQ ID NO:
- 97, an amino acid sequence that is at least 90% identical to amino acids 1-300 of SEQ ID NO:
- 97, and an amino acid sequence that is at least 85% identical to amino acids 1-300 of SEQ ID NO:
- 97, and wherein said encoded RNA-dependent RNA polymerase has RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity.
