Abstract
A peptide composition is provi'deo! which specifically inhibits the ability of δ protein kinase C (δPKC) to phosphor/late pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDK) under ischemic conditions. The peptide composition is useful for treating or reducing tissue damage resulting from ischemia and/or reperfusion.
Claims17
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a δPKC-selective modulatory peptide 5 to 20 amino acids in length comprising a contiguous core sequence of 5 amino acid residues and further comprising a first cysteine residue located at the N-terminal or C-terminal end of the modulatory peptide,
- wherein the contiguous core sequence is at least 60% identical to SEQ ID NO:1,
- and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
A method for reducing ischemic injury to cardiac tissue comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a δPKC-selective modulatory peptide, wherein the modulatory peptide is 5 to 20 amino acids in length, comprises a contiguous core sequence of 5 amino acid residues wherein the contiguous core sequence is at least 60% identical to SEQ ID NO:1, and further comprises a first cysteine residue located at the N-terminal or C-terminal end of the modulatory peptide.
