Abstract
System, methods and apparatus are described that facilitate tests and measurements related to multi-wire, multi-phase communications links. Information is transmitted in N-phase polarity encoded symbols and an eye pattern corresponding to the symbols may be generated such that the symbols are aligned with a trigger for each symbol that corresponds to a clock edge used to sample the symbols. The eye pattern may be used to determine sufficiency of setup times in the communication links and other such characteristics defining a communications channel capabilities.
Claims30
A method for analyzing a communications link, comprising:
- using a sampling clock to generate one or more triggers for each symbol in a plurality of symbols received from the communications link, wherein the sampling clock is generated by a receiver of the plurality of symbols from transitions between consecutive symbols in the plurality of symbols, and wherein the receiver generates an edge in the sampling clock independently for each symbol in the plurality of symbols;
- determining a trigger corresponding to a first-occurring transition at a symbol boundary for each of the plurality of symbols;
- and
- generating an image comprising superimposed representations of the plurality of symbols, wherein the representations are arranged with respect to one another in the image by temporally aligning the triggers corresponding to the plurality of symbols,
- wherein the sampling clock is generated to capture data communicated in the plurality of symbols.
An apparatus, comprising:
- means for using a sampling clock to generate one or more triggers for each symbol in a plurality of symbols received from a communications link, wherein the sampling clock is generated by a receiver of the plurality of symbols from transitions between consecutive symbols in the plurality of symbols, and wherein the receiver generates an edge in the sampling clock independently for each symbol in the plurality of symbols;
- means for determining a trigger corresponding to a first-occurring transition at a symbol boundary for each of the plurality of symbols;
- and
- means for generating an image comprising superimposed representations of the plurality of symbols, wherein the representations are arranged with respect to one another in the image by temporally aligning triggers corresponding to the plurality of symbols,
- wherein the sampling clock is generated to capture data communicated in the plurality of symbols.
An apparatus, comprising:
- clock recovery logic configured to generate a sampling clock from transitions between consecutive symbols in a plurality of symbols received from a communications link, wherein the clock recovery logic generates an edge in the sampling clock independently for each symbol in the plurality of symbols;
- and
- a processing circuit configured to:
- use the sampling clock to generate one or more triggers for each symbol in the plurality of symbols;
- determine a trigger corresponding to a first-occurring transition at a symbol boundary for each of the plurality of symbols;
- and
- generate an image comprising superimposed representations of the plurality of symbols, wherein the representations are arranged with respect to one another in the image by temporally aligning triggers corresponding to the plurality of symbols,
- wherein the sampling clock is generated to capture data communicated in the plurality of symbols.
A non-transitory processor-readable storage medium having one or more instructions which, when executed by at least one processing circuit, cause the at least one processing circuit to:
- use a sampling clock to generate one or more triggers for each symbol in a plurality of symbols received from a communications link, wherein the sampling clock is generated by a receiver of the plurality of symbols from transitions between consecutive symbols in the plurality of symbols, where the receiver generates an edge in the sampling clock independently for each symbol in the plurality of symbols;
- determine a trigger corresponding to a first-occurring transition at a symbol boundary for each of the plurality of symbols;
- and
- generate an image comprising superimposed representations of the plurality of symbols, wherein the representations are arranged with respect to one another in the image by temporally aligning triggers corresponding to the plurality of symbols,
- wherein the sampling clock is generated to capture data communicated in the plurality of symbols.
