Abstract
An oral product includes a body that is wholly receivable in an oral cavity. The body includes a mouth-stable polymer matrix, cellulosic fibers embedded in the mouth-stable polymer matrix, and a mouth-soluble binder dispersed in the mouth-stable polymer matrix.
Claims21
An oral product, comprising a body that is wholly receivable in an oral cavity, the body comprising:
- between 40 weight percent and 80 weight percent of a mouth-stable polymer forming a mouth-stable polymer matrix, wherein the mouth-stable polymer matrix comprises polyurethane;
- at least 10 weight percent of non-tobacco cellulosic fibers comprising cellulose having an average fiber size of less than 200 micrometers embedded in the mouth-stable polymer matrix;
- between 0.1 weight percent and 5.0 weight percent of a mouth-soluble binder dispersed in the mouth-stable polymer matrix, wherein the mouth-soluble binder comprises guar gum, xanthan, carboxymethyl cellulose, or a combination thereof;
- and
- between 0.1 mg and 6 mg nicotine.
A method of forming an oral product comprising:
- extruding a mouth-stable polymer having non-tobacco cellulosic fibers and a mouth-soluble binder dispersed therein;
- and
- dispersing nicotine or a derivative thereof within the mouth-stable polymer during or after the extruding step, wherein the resulting oral product comprises:
- between 40 weight percent and 80 weight percent of the mouth-stable polymer forming a mouth-stable polymer matrix, wherein the mouth-stable polymer matrix comprises polyurethane;
- at least 10 weight percent the non-tobacco cellulosic fibers embedded in the mouth-stable polymer matrix, wherein the cellulosic fibers comprise cellulose having an average fiber size of less than 200 micrometers;
- between 0.1 weight percent and 5.0 weight percent of the mouth-soluble binder dispersed in the mouth-stable polymer matrix, wherein the mouth-soluble binder comprises guar gum, xanthan, carboxymethyl cellulose, or a combination thereof;
- and
- between 0.1 mg and 6 mg nicotine.
An oral product, comprising a body that is wholly receivable in an oral cavity, the body comprising:
- between 40 weight percent and 80 weight percent of a mouth-stable polymer forming a mouth-stable polymer matrix, wherein the mouth-stable polymer matrix comprises polyurethane;
- at least 10 weight percent of tobacco fibers having an average fiber size of less than 200 micrometers embedded in the mouth-stable polymer matrix;
- and
- between 0.1 weight percent and 5.0 weight percent of a mouth-soluble binder dispersed in the mouth-stable polymer matrix, wherein the mouth-soluble binder comprises guar gum, xanthan, carboxymethyl cellulose, or a combination thereof,
- wherein the body is formed by a extruding a mixture comprising the mouth-stable polymer, the tobacco fibers, and the mouth-soluble binder.
