Abstract
Compositions for treating disorders of iron homeostasis are provided. More particularly, anti-ferroportin antibodies, compositions containing such antibodies, corresponding nucleic acids, vectors and host cells, and methods of making such antibodies are provided.

An isolated antibody that binds an epitope with the sequence SITPTKIPEI (amino acids 417-426 of SEQ ID NO:
- 16) of ferroportin and that preserves ferroportin activity.
An isolated monoclonal antibody which binds to an epitope with the sequence SITPTKIPEI (amino acids 417-426 of SEQ ID NO:
- 16) with a Kd of 10−6 M or less.
An isolated monoclonal antibody that binds to an epitope with the sequence SITPTKIPEI (amino acids 417-426 of SEQ ID NO:
- 16) and that inhibits cellular iron retention.
An isolated monoclonal antibody that binds an epitope with the sequence SITPTKIPEI (amino acids 417-426 of SEQ ID NO:
- 16) and that reduces internalization and/or degradation of ferroportin.
An isolated antibody that binds to an epitope with the sequence SITPTKIPEI (amino acids 417-426 of SEQ ID NO:
- 16), wherein said antibody comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NOs:
- 26 or 28.
