Abstract
Thiazolidinedione compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are described. The compounds can be used in methods of treating cancer in a subject by administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of the compound. The compounds can also be used in methods of inhibiting glucose uptake in a cell by contacting the cell with the compound.
Claims15
A compound according to formula I:
- wherein R1-R5 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, halogen, hydroxyl, nitro, amine, C1-C4 alkoxy, and trifluoromethyl;
- R6 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, and C1-C4 alkyl;
- and R7 and R8 are trifluoromethyl;
- and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
A method of treating cancer in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a compound according to Formula I:
- wherein R1-R5 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, halogen, hydroxyl, nitro, amine, alkoxy, C1-C4 alkoxy, and trifluoromethyl;
- R6 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, and C1-C4 alkyl;
- and R7 and R8 are trifluoromethyl;
- and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein the cancer is selected from the group consisting of prostate cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer.
A method of inhibiting glucose uptake in a cell by contacting the cell with a compound of formula I:
- wherein R1-R5 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, halogen, hydroxyl, nitro, amine, alkoxy, C1-C4 alkoxy, and trifluoromethyl;
- R6 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, and C1-C4 alkyl;
