A method for controlling power steering of a vehicle during a steering operation of a steering system of the vehicle, the steering system including an electric motor and a control unit, the control unit including a processor, the method comprising:
- determining by the processor a dynamic steering rack force of a steering rack of the vehicle, based on either one of a force or torque that occurs within the steering system;
- determining by the processor a comfort steering rack force of a steering rack of the vehicle, based on a variable indicative of a state of movement of the vehicle;
- deriving by the processor a resulting rack force as a relationship between the dynamic rack force and the comfort rack force;
- determining by the processor a target steering torque based on the resultant rack force;
- and
- sending a first signal from the control unit to an electric motor for enacting the target steering torque upon the steering system so as to control said power steering of the vehicle.
