Abstract
Specific embodiments of the present invention determine a range of a physiologic property, for each of a plurality of periods of time, and monitor changes in the patient's heart disease based on changes in the range. Other embodiments determine a minimum of a physiologic property, for each of a plurality of periods of time, and monitor changes in the patient's heart disease based on changes in the minimum. Still other embodiments determine a maximum of the physiologic property, for each of a plurality of periods of time, and monitor changes in the patient's heart disease based on changes in the maximum.
Claims10
A method for monitoring a patient's heart disease, comprising:
- (a) during a period of time,
- using an implanted sensor to obtain a plurality of measurements of a physiologic property other than heart rate (HR),
- determining, using a microcontroller of an implantable medical device (IMD) communicatively coupled to the implanted sensor, only one of a minimum and maximum of the plurality of measurements of the physiologic property obtained during the period of time, and
- storing in the memory of the IMD the only one of the minimum and maximum of the measurements of the physiologic property obtained during the period of time;
- (b) repeating step (a) during one or more further period of time, to thereby determine and store the only one of the minimum and maximum of the measurements of the physiologic property during each of the one or more further period of time;
- (c) monitoring, using the microcontroller of the IMD changes in the patient's heart disease based on how the stored measurements of the only one of the minimum and maximum of the physiologic property changes over time;
- and
- (d) based on the monitored changes in the patient's heart disease, using the microcontroller of the IMD to at least one of:
- sound an alarm;
- and
- adjust programming parameters of the IMD,
- wherein during each said period of time, the patient's heart is both stressed and not stressed so that one or more measurements of the physiologic property during each said period of time is/are obtained while the patient's heart is stressed and one or more measurements of the physiologic property during each said period of time is/are obtained while the patient's heart is not stressed.
A method for monitoring a patient's heart disease, comprising:
- (a) during a first period of time during which the patient's heart is stressed above a threshold and a second period of time during which the patient's heart is not stressed above a second threshold,
- using an implanted sensor to obtain a plurality of measurements of a physiologic property other than heart rate (HR),
- determining, using a microcontroller of an implantable medical device (IMD) communicatively coupled to the implanted sensor, a minimum and maximum of the plurality of measurements of the physiologic property obtained during the first and second period of time, and
- storing in the memory of the IMD the minimum and maximum of the measurements of the physiologic property obtained during the periods of time;
- (b) repeating step (a) during one or more further sets of periods of time during which the patient's heart is stressed above a threshold and not stressed above a second threshold, to thereby determine and store the minimum and maximum of the measurements of the physiologic property during each of the one or more further periods of time;
- (c) monitoring, using the microcontroller of the IMD changes in the patient's heart disease based on how the stored measurements of the minimum and maximum of the physiologic property changes over time;
- and
- (d) based on the monitored changes in the patient's heart disease, using the microcontroller of the IMD to at least one of:
- sound an alarm;
- and
- adjust programming parameters of the IMD.
