Abstract
The present invention relates to a new and distinctive canola, designated I2X0066A/B. Also included are seeds of canola I2X0066A/B, to the plants, or plant parts, of canola I2X0066A/B and to methods for producing a canola plant produced by crossing the canola I2X0066A/B with itself or another canola genotype, and the creation of variants by mutagenesis or transformation of canola I2X0066A/B.
Claims20
A seed of canola designated I2X0066A/B, wherein a representative sample of seed of said cultivar was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA 122146.
A method of introducing a desired trait into canola I2X0066A/B, wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a I2X0066A/B plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA 122146, with a plant of another canola cultivar that comprises a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of herbicide resistance, insect resistance, and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease or viral disease;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the I2X0066A/B plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of canola I2X0066A/B to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and an oleic acid value of about 70% and an α-linolenic acid value of less than about 3% based on a percentage of total fatty acids.
A method of modifying fatty acid metabolism or modifying carbohydrate metabolism of canola I2X0066A/B wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a I2X0066A/B plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA 122146, with a plant of another canola cultivar to produce F1 progeny plants that comprise a nucleic acid molecule encoding an enzyme selected from the group consisting of phytase, fructosyltransferase, levansucrase, alpha-amylase, invertase and starch branching enzyme or encoding an antisense of stearyl-ACP desaturase;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have said nucleic acid molecule to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the I2X0066A/B plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have said nucleic acid molecule and physiological and morphological characteristics of canola I2X0066A/B to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise said nucleic acid molecule and have an oleic acid value of about 70% and an α-linolenic acid value of less than about 3% based on a percentage of total fatty acids.
