Abstract
A watermelon plant that produces fruit having (i) ultra-firm flesh and/or liquid-retaining flesh and (ii) soluble solids of at least about 6 brix.
Claims39
A seed, or a part thereof, of inbred watermelon line 3347, wherein a representative sample of seed of said inbred watermelon line has been deposited with the NCIMB under NCIMB Accession No. 41230.
An F1 seed of inbred watermelon line 3347, wherein a representative sample of seed of said inbred watermelon line 3347 has been deposited with the NCIMB under NCIMB accession number 41230.
An F1 watermelon seed produced by crossing a first watermelon plant of inbred watermelon line 3347, wherein a representative sample of seed of said inbred watermelon line has been deposited under NCIMB Accession No. 41230, and a second watermelon plant.
A watermelon plant, or a part thereof, that produces a mature fruit having liquid-retaining flesh, that when cut, loses less than three and one-half percent weight after three days storage at 4° centigrade,
- loses less than three percent weight after three days storage at 4° centigrade,
- loses less than two percent weight after three days storage at 4° centigrade,
- loses less than one and one-half percent weight after three days storage at 4° centigrade,
- loses less than five percent weight after a week of storage at 4° centigrade,
- loses less than four percent weight after a week of storage at 4° centigrade,
- loses less than three percent weight after a week of storage at 4° centigrade, or
- loses less than two and one-half percent weight after a week of storage at 4° centigrade,
- wherein said liquid-retaining flesh resists pressure of at least 3.0 lbf, said watermelon plant is an F1 plant of inbred watermelon line 3347, wherein a representative sample of seed of said inbred watermelon line 3347 has been deposited with the NCIMB under NCIMB Accession No. 41230.
A method of producing a watermelon seed comprising:
- crossing a first watermelon plant of inbred watermelon line 3347, wherein a representative sample of seed of said inbred watermelon line has been deposited with the NCIMB under NCIMB Accession No. 41230, with a second watermelon plant;
- and
- obtaining a seed from said cross.
