Abstract
An apparatus and method for charging a battery are provided. The apparatus includes a controller that is configured to select a driving mode based on a user operation. In addition, a BMS (Battery Management System) is configured to execute a charge type based on the selected driving mode and charge the battery.

An apparatus for charging a battery, comprising:
- a controller configured to select a driving mode based on a user operation;
- a Battery Management System (BMS) configured to execute a charge type based on the selected driving mode;
- and
- a battery configured to be charged based on a control of the BMS,
- wherein when the driving mode is a short-distance driving mode, the charge is controlled to be performed up to a low state of charge (SOC).

- selecting, by a controller, a driving mode based on a user operation;
- executing, by a battery management system (BMS) a charge type based on the selected driving mode;
- and
- charging, by the BMS, the battery,
- wherein when the driving mode is a short-distance driving mode, the charge is controlled to be performed up to a low state of charge (SOC).

A non-transitory computer readable medium containing program instructions executed by a controller, the computer readable medium comprising:
- program instructions that select a driving mode based on a user operation;
- program instructions that control a battery management system (BMS) to execute a charge type based on the selected driving mode;

- wherein when the driving mode is a short-distance driving mode, the charge is controlled to be performed up to a low state of charge (SOC).
